Dr. Konrad Riemer

Konrad Riemer advises on all aspects of German and European competition and antitrust law. His particular area of expertise includes merger control, cooperation between competitors, design of distribution systems and behavioural requirements for dominant companies. He also advises companies on regulatory requirements, especially on unbundling and tariff regulation.

Konrad Riemer has many years of experience advising companies in the energy-, transport- and retail sector. He has represented companies in merger control proceedings before the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office and appears in court on a regular basis.  He has represented companies before the Federal Network Agency and regional authorities in regulatory issues. 

Konrad Riemer is a founding partner of LEITFELD Rechtsanwälte.  He previously worked as a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer from 2015 to 2021 in the area of competition and antitrust law (energy sector group). During this time, he advised a leading German mobility service provider on-site on its day-to-day antitrust business for several months. He is a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht.

Konrad Riemer studied law at the University of Tübingen and completed his legal traineeship in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Stuttgart, including stations at the law firms Gleiss Lutz and Oppenländer. He was a research assistant at the Chair of Competition Law at the University of Tübingen (Professor Dr Stefan Thomas) and has completed his doctorate on the topic of "Investment obligations of operators of electricity transmission networks" there. His dissertation was awarded with the Reinhold and Maria Teufel Prize of the University of Tübingen. During his doctoral studies, Konrad Riemer was also a tutor in the fields of European law, constitutional law and administrative law.  

Konrad Riemer speaks German and English.

Konrad Riemer publishes articles on antitrust and regulatory issues regularly, most recently Chapter 16 - Energy, in: Korah, Competition Law of the European Union, 2nd ed. (together with Ulrich Scholz). His dissertation investigates investment obligations of electricity transmission system operators from an energy law and constitutional law perspective. He also gives lectures on antitrust and regulatory law.
